Drummer, Freemason, lay philosopher, and just kind of all over the place. I do drum videos to music that sounds and feels good to play. So, rarely will you see a "popular" song on here unless it meets that criteria.
Daft Punk - "Giorgio by Moroder" (Drumless Track - Drum Interpretation)
1 - I did not have a metronome going during the entirety of this song. I've covered half of it before, so I had some idea of the tempo. Thus my coming into it wasn't 100% confident as it took me a minute to hear the music underneath his oration.
2 - If you remember the original, a click is actually occurring here. See FN #1. Again, no click. I'm doing my own click with the sincere hope it lines up. (It just nearly does, thank goodness.)
3 - One of the smartest things I've ever done with my kit is having this auxiliary hi hat. I can just groove out in full without worrying about getting limbs and sticks out of the way (e.g., the regular hi hat.)
4 - Generally, this is about as linear as any fill I'm ever going to play is ever going to get. I'm not a big fan of linear fills. Just a preference.
5 - W/r/t FN #4, I am, however a fan of making a mistake or three in each video. :)
6 - I'm a cross-referencing machine in these footnotes! W/r/t FN #4, again...it's not that I won't do linear fills, I just won't stay there when it comes to choosing fills. There's a time and a place and it's not all the time. But, it does have its purpose and often very subtle ones work out in this piece of music. Or my interpretation of it, that is.
7 - This sort of degradation modulation with the bass drum - 4, 4, 3, 3, 2, 2, 1, 1 - was during a practice session I had with the song. I wasn't paying attention and stopped a beat early and only missed a beat, but came back in and it dawned on me to try it and...well, it made the cut. Is it poetic? I don't know. It just is. It's there.
8 - Okay, this is really important for anyone who wants to be a keyboard warrior and tell me I didn't play Omar Hakim's parts. THAT'S THE POINT. And literally why this footnote falls on the words "you can do whatever you want; nobody told me what to do and there was no preconception of what to do" - so enjoy the rest of the song AS I FELT IT.
9 - I don't solo. I'm not a huge fan of them mostly because I just don't write that way. So, what you hear is what I felt like doing at that exact moment. Of course, with a few practice sessions to get down the length of each section.
10 - By this point, I knew I had done a reasonable enough job to keep this recording. And thus, happy.
11 - Stay hydrated.

The Spy from Cairo - "Fanaa" (Drum Interpretation)

1 - Long intro. If you're not interested in a whole piece of music, you can skip to roughly 47 seconds. Otherwise, maybe just enjoy the music fully. 2 - It is not lost on me that this is my second Arabic music interpretation that starts out with some palm muting and rim knocks. 3 - Yet another new snare. This one is a Ludwig Universal Series Black Brass Snare (14x6.5). The Benny Greb snare is l...

Footnotes: 1 - I used a program called Moises for this cover/interpretation (and many that are yet to come). It allowed me to remove the drums from the track. This was not done 1) because I think I have better parts to play or 2) because I don't think their current drummer does a good job but rather because I play some different grooves which would then sound muddled and weird since I'm not pla...
Average As Poets - "Common N.M.E." (Original Song)

Footnotes: 1 - I have tinnutus really bad; since 1998 from playing shows at The Cog Factory in Omaha, NE (which has long since been closed) without absolutely zero ear protection and absolutey 100% loud ass everything. So, this bell...I have no idea if it actually comes through the recording. I've heard it so many times that I think it does, but I also think it's just my brain playing the sound...

1 - "I stole these 23 years ago; I'm not giving them back." I.e. I marched with the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps in 2000. After our last show of the season (Semis) one of the tenor players left them or gave them to me; they weren't of any use anymore. I've kept them ever since. They work great for cymbal swells. Puffies, they're called. And did I really steal them? No. 2 - I did this cover many y...

It's been a long time. 2023 has been the busiest year of my life and while for good reasons, it definitely affected my ability sit down and work out some drum videos. But, I still play 3-5 times a week. So, it's not like I quit playing. :) 1 - That's all you're gonna get out of me on this intro. I played around with ideas during this rag tag, Back to the Future III-esque, hoedown (is it hoe or ...
Plaid - "CLOCK" (Drum Interpretation)
Переглядів 14311 місяців тому
Footnotes: 1 - This song took a collective three months to really nail down how you will see it here. Initially, I tried a bunch of rhtymic modulation stuff to go with this intro, but ultimately landed on (or took off?) leaving it be. Less was certainly more. And, apropos: the song is called "Clock"...it just wasn't the time for it. ;) 2 - About 50% of that section was written, the other 50% wa...

I just watched Independence Day (again, like, the ORIGINAL one), so I'll leave you with this: "Hello, boys! I'm baaaaaaaaack." 1 - For those of you that have been a subscriber to my channel for the last 11 years, you might remember that I covered this song in like 2013 or something. It was one camera angle, three microphones, and a whole lot less skill, cinematography, and audio quality. It has...
Raul Ferrando feat. Fathi Aljarah - "Yearning" (Drum Interpretation)

Footnotes: 1 - Alright, let's get this out of the way: Arabic music is incredibly rhythmic. This song is no exception. There already is percussion on this track, however, not drum set-percussion. Thus you have this drum INTERPRETATION. What I did here was to try and play to complement the percussion on the track - so at times, I weave in and out of what it's doing. Others, I'm aligned with it. ...

This is a redo from almost 9 years ago. If you wanna hear bad audio, do some digging on my channel. And or: watch this instead. Footnotes: 1 - I thought I cut out all audio due to my forgetting I HIT RECORD, but the overheads were still going, therefore you get my 8-stroke roll with puffies I took as a "souvenir" from when I marched in Drum and Bugle Corps with the Colts 23 years ago. 2 - I ori...

Footnotes: 1 - That was NOT planned. 2 - There are these percussive parts Lorne Balfe wrote in the original piece. I tried a few floor tom things to mimic them, but it just never turned out right. So...that's why you hear them. 3 - Whoops. On the wrong part of the count. But still like IN time I guess. 4 - Sike! No, really. I have no idea what happened there. We'll call it "cold feet on the cra...

I haven't done a Drum Interpretation in over a year (August 2021). I didn't realize how long it had been. So, I dug out a bunch of old soundtrack music and got to writing some parts. This is just the first of what I hope will amount to a good handful. Kudos to Brian Tyler on this score. Footnotes: 1 - You'll forgive my "unusual" attire for this video. I had recorded a few versions earlier in th...

1 - Nope, that is not the fill. But it'll do. (Also, see note #2) 2 - "I messed that up." (Yes, you did.) 3 - Not a damn clue what I said there. Probably something to the effect of having done well enough despite that one flub. I don't know, man. I just work here. 4 - I can't verify that Longineu Parsons III actually plays that hi-hat part; it just sounds like it's there. So...well, there it is...

One of my favs on undertow thanks bro.
Agreed! Thanks!
The beeeeest
Thank you!
This video should have 1 million more views just because of the end😅 great shit, man this is the next one for me.
Haha thank you, my friend!
Well done. Footcam is blurry (I thought it was my eyes at first) 😅
Doesn't appear blurry for me! Thanks for watching, my friend.
It felt good! Ciao! w/r/t FN#4: amazing! I don't know the original, either.
I just listened to the original. Holy crap I wasn't even close 😂
🤣
“2017 version” EVO! Well done, mate! Your drumming is amazing! And for me inspiring - I try to sit on my throne & throw down some chops, so to speak, but really nothing to do with your level. And I was kind of blocked by my bad tinnitus for a couple of years (already discussed it, months ago). Now, still ringing, it’s more under control and I sit there again! Not so often as I wish, and still at my very very lower level. This is just my first impression, I couldn’t help it! Now I’ve got to go ... and study your FNs!!! 😉 CIAO!!!
Thank you, my friend! I'm glad you're at least trying to get back into the swing of things. Nice work! Enjoy the FNs! haha
Only a quick note. In 2017 ver, at this point ua-cam.com/video/0grkYf7YBao/v-deo.html , being correct the time signature, you inserted 8 bars on the bass drum I like a lot. I think they may fit here, too ua-cam.com/video/hsR3Is9NWzA/v-deo.html . Just one little rhythm I like to hear. Followed by the - 4, 4, 3, 3, 2, 2, 1, 1 - sequence. I don’t know if for you it makes sense. And, of course, is not a suggestion, you’re the interpreter. I’m just the listener. Again, great job! Cheers!
@@antoniocolavero5349 oh, yeah! I forgot I did that. 👍
This song gave me a new respect for drums, wow. The toms sound is beautiful and the managed chaos you put into where they go I had to watch 3 times to wrap my head around, brilliant!
Wow, thank you! That's very kind of you to say. It was a lot of fun to play!
Very nice
Thank you!
Great job again! Cheers mate!
Thank you, my friend! 🤝
First! Fantastic drumming and nice camera angles. 🎉
Many thanks! 😁
wow ❤
Can u make just a drum version, please? Without the melody itself, just drums
Maybe. :)
Fun song to play. The 3:57 , 4 snare shots starting with the left always was difficult for me
Definitely a lot of fun! Definitely took a good handful of reps to get that down.
I wish I had just a tiny fraction of the talent you own... Ridiculous skillz. I simply love that track and you did it the greatest credit. Thank you, my friend.
That is very kind of you to say. Thank YOU, my friend!
Legit🔥
Thank you!
So fucking good man🤘🏻
Thank you!
Would love to hear this with a groovy funkfeel
There's an idea. I'll see if I can come up with something!
Good👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Oblivion - remember all
fantastic
Thank you!
merci
Very nice! Ciao!👋👋👋
Thank you! :)
Nice dude! Awesome. Always love some LP in my life.
Thank you, my friend!
LP is always a good listen.
This made my heart happy
Muy Bien 👍
You nailed that fill at 2:55. The other drummers that I’ve watched on youtube didn’t even do it. The actual drummer that wrote the song doesn’t even play it live.
Thank you! That the actual drummer himself doesn't do it bugs me. Not just for this song and band, but other bands, too. It seems borderline iconic for the song.
amassou! Toca muito!!
Sick. I'd be curious if you'd do another cover of this (or any other track) but from the drumless version of Random Access Memories
I plan to! When? No clue. But it's on my playlist 🙂 and the whole thing. Not a mashup.
@00:36 that tiny cymbal on the 'beep' though, so good
👏 little zil-bel. It's been on my kit for 25 years.
Similar tinnitus bell or hissing, allegedly different origin in my case - my practising on pads, or their e-sound, might have made it worse, though. Our brain may be playing it, or a little gremlin might, somewhere around our skull! We'll never know! Each time I kind of perceive a lot of work behind your drumming - and your notes proves that. May be my brain, or might be that same gremlin at work! Cheers, mate!
Thank you, my friend! :) I really enjoy playing with this group. The new record we're writing has been a lot of fun!
🎉
I am a violinist. I see that you are talented. Never stop!
Thank you. That's very kind!
Super❤.
One more great job! Ciao
Thank you! Cheers!
Very nice, Eric!!
Thank you, my friend!
Yeah, it's been long. But that's great as usual! I keep searching for [notes] ... [1] that "DINGGG" sounds just fine to me! ... [3&4] that one seems good ... [8] if I got that hint right, waiting for Yoda! ;) Cheers, buddy!
You are correct! I've had fun with those BLR ones in the past. I plan to do the same with that one.
Oooooope, If ya unlock the next level in the Masonry, will you have the POWER to play it lick for lick? Me thinks yes. Pretty good though (I am currently covering it as well...lol, hence the watching of this vid).
I'll let you know in 2028 ;) (but probably not (unlocking anything) haha))
You are the coolest guy ever
Madden 2005 is the reason why I love this kind of music, thank you for this cover 🤟🏽
No doubt! Thank you, my friend!
Im super late but i love this song and this cover! It sounded great. Wish i knew how to play drums, man.
Thank you, my friend!
This music is epic!
Daft punk for ever ❤❤❤ 👍🫶👏
It sounds POWERFUL !!!
Thank you!
DUDE!!! I shared this Bravo!!
Thank you!
Yeah this took me back a bit. Good shii man. The Outsider by A Perfect Circle would be cool to see.
Thank you, my friend!
Redo this and get the attention that the hard work deserves.
Thank you! I've considered redoing it.
I like those footnotes! Good guide through the interpretation. Another awesome job, mate! Cheers!
Thank you! That's sort of the idea behind them. I always wonder what goes on behind the scenes when songs are written or videos created. I also just love footnotes. 🙂
ENERGY
No Comment , cant say it but this is what everyone needs to hear
Dude, you keep topping yourself. Awesome job!
Thank you, my good man!
